Early telescopes and land surveying instruments were traditionally mounted on wood tripods. On uneven ground tripods are easy to adjust, so the instrument is level, and the pointed legs had good grip. Our reproductions of 19th century tripods carry lamps instead of an instrument. Willet Shorebird Lamp
The Willet, in russet tones with accents of black and red, stands alone on his pretty native wooden platform as a solitary statement and warm country expression. Each shorebird is hand-carved and hand-painted as an original work of art, and no two are exactly alike. The Willet is about 9" long, and the lamp stands about 24" high overall. We've topped this one with a cream bone linen shade and brass ball finial. Three-way switch is provided.

Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse Lamp Maryland
Built in 1875 atop Thomas Point Shoal, out in the water, this attractive and unusual lighthouse has a construction that is quite typical of other populating the Middle Atlantic region. Due to the nature of its underpinnings, it appears to sit on stilts coming up from the ocean floor. Thomas Point was the last manned lighthouse on Chesapeake Bay. Although it can only be reveryed and seen by boat, it is the most photographed and painted lighthouse in the region. Overall lamp height is 24".
